Definitely worth a watch

Good fun sci-fi thriller, with Vin Diesel at his coolest. It''s a very simple concept - on a strange planet, light-sensitive aliens assault a group of stranded space travellers during a 200 year eclipse - which means more time can be spent concentrating on the visuals (which make excellent use of different coloured filters) and eerie sound (much of the time sinister alien cries replace music). Vin Diesel and Rhada Mitchell give solid performances in the lead, but you have to feel that the supporting cast are essentially alien food. There is just the right balance of tense action and exploration of the relationship between the three main characters - at no point did the film drag, for me. When you consider such atrocities as AvP, low-budget sci-fi gems like Pitch Black become evn more attractive. |
